About
About Loanster
Loanster is a New Zealand business finance toolkit: a plain-English loan library, free planning tools, and lending specialists who find funding for business purposes. We built it for owners who want to understand the numbers before they sign anything.
Why does Loanster exist?
Most business owners in New Zealand meet business finance at the worst possible moment — a tax bill is due, a vehicle has died, a big contract needs funding by Friday. They're asked to make a decision quickly, often without a clear idea of what they need, what's realistic or how the options differ.
We think the conversation goes better when the owner has already done a little homework. So we put the homework online, free: a library that explains every common loan type, tools that size the actual problem, and guides that cover the New Zealand rules — LVR, GST, provisional tax, depreciation, IRD debt — that sit behind most funding decisions.
What we do
- Listen first. A lending specialist talks with you about the business, what the money is for and how it will be repaid.
- Match the route to the problem. Property-secured loans from $20,000 up to $1m; unsecured loans and lines of credit based on turnover and bank statements.
- Find the sharpest option for your situation. Every loan is priced on individual circumstances, so we don't publish rate cards. We look for the best available fit for yours.
- Guide the paperwork. If you decide to go ahead, we help you through to funding.
What we don't do
- We don't do personal or consumer lending. Loanster is for business purposes only.
- We don't claim to be a bank. We work with lending partners.
- We don't publish "from" rates or teaser figures that won't match your situation.
- We don't store what you type into our tools.
How our guides and tools are made
Everything in the library, tools and guides is written by the Loanster Editorial Team for New Zealand readers. We work from primary sources — Inland Revenue, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, the Companies Office, business.govt.nz and New Zealand legislation — and link to them where it helps. Tax thresholds, dates and lending rules change, so each guide carries an updated date, and we review content when rules move (for example, Investment Boost from 22 May 2025 and the Reserve Bank's LVR changes from 1 December 2025).
Our tools use simple, published formulas. Each tool page shows the maths and a worked example so you can check it yourself.
Who we help
Sole traders, companies, partnerships and trusts — from tradies in Christchurch and contractors in the Waikato to importers in Auckland, orchardists in Hawke's Bay and tourism operators in Queenstown. If the funding is for a business purpose and you're in New Zealand, we're happy to talk.
